Projects for CDC's Division of Emergency Operations (DEO)
CDC Training Program: Building Global PHEM Capacity
SIS currently assists Fellows from Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA) and non-GHSA countries to participate in a 3-month training program at the CDC in Atlanta to build public health emergency management (PHEM) capacity. To date, we have supported 7 cohorts totaling over 100 Fellows from more than 30 countries.
Courses are designed to train public health professionals in countries around the world to function as emergency responders in their respective countries. Trainings teach participants to develop emergency management plans for disease outbreaks and emergency response efforts. For over 5 years, SIS has been providing logistical support, curriculum development and translation, and training support to the CDC for this critical program.
Global COVID-19 Incident Manager Training
SIS developed courses and supporting modules and materials for basic, intermediate, advanced, and international incident manager training to assist countries impacted by COVID-19. We developed 25 courses, supporting modules, and materials for incident manager training that have been used to teach emergency responders in 22 countries.
SIS utilized CDC’s Global Public Health Emergency Management Core Competency Model and domestic and in-country subject matter experts (SMEs) for the development of all courses, which were all designed to be in compliance with traditional, didactic, and virtual instructor led trainings. All documents/products we developed were Section 508 compliant.
In response to COVID-19, we converted in-person courses to Virtual Instructor Led Training (VILT) and facilitated these trainings. Trainings were delivered to public health professionals, including dignitaries, Ministries of Health, and CDC Country Directors.
DEO Logistics & Training Support in Cameroon
For DEO, we also supported the establishment of public health emergency management programs in four regions of Cameroon and conducted training-of-trainers (TOTs) for master trainers to deliver trainings to public health professionals on the principles and best practices for emergency management.
SIS also provided technical assistance, coordination, and logistical support for meetings, trainings, workshops, and exercises, including simultaneous translation and interpreter support, venue set up, registration, printed material, in-country transportation, lodging and per diem for instructors in and out of country, and summary reports.
