SIS is working to assist the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) with addressing pediatric, adolescent, and young adult cancers, in support of President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden’s Cancer Moon Shot that is mobilizing a national effort to end cancer as we know it. This critical initiative aims to prevent more than 4 million cancer deaths by 2047 and improve the experience of people who are touched by cancer. Accurate, accessible, and timely data is needed to guide treatment for persons of all ages who are living with cancer and SIS is in the process of refining a national cancer registry that we developed to accomplish this goal.

SIS joins in the fight to reduce drug overdose and opioid use in the United States. The opioid and drug overdose crisis continues to have a devastating impact on the lives of Americans. Tracking overdoses and providing timely data to state and local public health officials helps to inform both prevention and treatment efforts. Since 2019, SIS has been providing data management and database support services to CDC’s National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC), Division of Overdose Prevention (DOP) to assist with the collection, analysis, and distribution of timely drug overdose and death data.

SIS is supporting the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the management of public health emergencies worldwide by assisting the CDC with the training of public health professionals from Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA) and non-GHSA countries. The CDC’s PHEM (public health emergency management) Fellowship program trains public health professionals in emergency management. The Fellows participate in training at the CDC and develop PHEM plans for their home countries. To date, SIS has trained over 100 Fellows from over 30 countries.
